This season we are offering several unique, hands-on learning opportunities for flower lovers. If learning in an open and relaxed environment, expanding your knowledge and creativity, mastering the fundamentals of growing your own flowers and floral design, or you just want to have fun— these workshops are for you. They also make a great gift for a flower lover!
We will be hosting design and flower farming immersive workshops on site at our flower farm for the 2023 season! Sign up for our newsletter to stay tuned!
These workshops are garden-inspired and designed to reflect the seasons. From peonies to dahlias and all the beautiful blooms in between, and showcase our sustainably grown blooms.
Each workshop includes a discussion (and in 2024 an actual walking tour!) of our farm where we share about crop choices, growing techniques and operations. Our gardens are not open to the public, so this discussion/eventual tour provides participants with exclusive access.
After our discussion, you will be greeted with a dazzling display of pre-cut flowers, refreshments to snack on, a glass of bubbly, and your design stations set with all the tools you need. Christine will demonstrate a garden inspired composition and share her fundamental tips to floral design, then set you out to create your own. We will walk around to provide support, tips, and tricks to make your arrangement unique and beautiful!
Workshops are limited to 8–12 participants for individual attention. No experience required—from hobbyists to experienced growers and designers, these workshops cater to all levels. Each class will run about 2 hours and are non-refundable.
Ticket includes floral instruction, all floral materials, dessert nibbles and a complimentary glass of hard cider from Hardscrabble Cider. Ages 21+.
*If severe weather restricts us from a workshops full potential we will reschedule. If you are not able to accommodate rescheduled date you will be refunded workshop cost. Otherwise, workshops are non-refundable.
These rich, strong, and magnificent blooms are the highlight of early summer. Thousands of single and double varieties are cut and sold at the farm, our local farmers market, and used in our floral designs. They are also dry stored in the cooler for later use.
This workshop is focused on how to compose a low and lush compote centerpiece using peonies as the spotlight with accenting flowers and foliage. We will talk about the varieties we grow, growing tips, where to source plants, stages of harvest, post harvest care and vase-life tips, disease control, and our storage procedures.
EARLY-MID JUNE. Cost TBD. REGISTRATION CLOSED.
High spring is when all of our annual and perennial crops explode! Workshop attendees will have a chance to work with a plethora of flowers in unique varieties, colors, and shapes. You will be using seasonal flowers such as snapdragons, sweet peas, lisianthus, foxglove, cosmos, phlox, zinnias, and much more in your floral arrangements!
We will discuss our crop planning, succession planting, and harvest procedures. We will be offering two of these classes so flowers may vary by workshop. Attendees will use these beautiful flowers and foliage to create an overflowing garden inspired arrangement in a beautiful ceramic vase.
LATE JUNE. Cost TBD. REGISTRATION CLOSED.
Dahlias are the queen of our gardens from August through October. They come in the widest array of shapes, colors and sizes and are sure to mesmerize you with their beauty! We grow over 30 varieties ranging from Dinner Plate to Anemone in our flower fields.
Led by head farmer-florist, Christine Covino, this Dahlia workshop will teach you how to arrange with the different varieties, shapes and textures of these highly sought-after, multi-layered blooms. This workshop will take place during peak dahlia season, and you will learn all about the proper technique for cutting as well as tips on post-harvest procedures, growing techniques, and disease and pest control. There will be time for a Q&A at the end.
Relax in the peaceful surroundings of the flower farm, sip a glass of Hardscrabble, laugh and learn amongst friends and enjoy the therapeutic benefits of arranging your own flowers. Take your floral arrangements home with you to enjoy for the next week!
